The Daddy

I am John C. Shelton.  I live in Nashvegas, baby. Music City USA. WooHoo! I’m not sure what that tells you about me other than where I live. This is who I live with…I am married and have two children five and seven. My wife continues to be twenty-nine. The children say it is amazing dad, mom is so much younger that you are. I say, “I am a lucky man,” and I am.

I have discovered that I really love gardening. I like being outdoors even though I frequently forget to go outside. I am worried about what I eat. I want to know where it came from and what went on it. We can control that; however, I am not incredibly anal retentive. Many of the books that I have read get more obsessive than I am willing to be. It’s not in my nature. As Clint Eastwood says, “A man’s gotta know his limitations.” My personal motto is “Don’t think, it hurts the team.” I will periodically expound on that theme. Mostly, the lizard brain knows what needs to be done, then I start think and suffer the paralysis of analysis. Silly brain. I’ll add more here as I think of it. Eat well and be healthy!

I dream of living in the country in a modern, sustainable home. As my wife is a surgical resident, we have to live very near the hospital. That makes it difficult to live in the country and raise all of my own food. A boy can dream. I am interested in growing vegetables and meat products. I am not a vegetarian. I love my incisors, bicuspids..well you get the idea. I don’t like my food to travel a long way. I can’t really figure out how it costs more to grow the food closer to me..there must be some kind of government subsidy…like for for corn..but I digress…my goal is find ways and things that help me live my urban homesteader dream. I hope you like what I like…
